KDL Bantam News

March 16: The KDL Bantams can hold their heads high after a fun and successful season of exciting hockey. A long bus trip over questionable roads ended the provincial run for this team. The boys came out flying in Hudson Bay, starting and ending the scoring in the 8 - 4 win over the previously undefeated home team. Unfortunately it wasn't quite enough to overcome the five goal deficit from the first game in Dodsland. Hudson Bay will advance to the provincial Bantam D final. Good luck, Hunters!

League play also had an unexpected ending. After a 4 to 3 win in Eatonia in game one of the semi-final series, KDL was unprepared for the hungry EEL team, who came to Dodsland looking to upset the 2nd place team. The game ended 2 to 0 in EEL's favor, and they advance to the league final with Dinsmore.

Mar. 4: KDL successfully wrapped up another round of both league and provincial playoffs over the weekend. KDL convincingly ended Kindersley's season with an 11 - 1 trouncing in the Dodsland barn on Friday night. Macklin braved icy roads to get to Kerrobert on Sunday afternoon in an attempt to overcome a three-goal deficit in provincial play. Lots of skating and passing and teamwork by KDL put an end to that dream. An 8 - 2 score ended that series and advances KDL to the provincial semi-finals.

Feb. 24: A great weekend of hockey was had by anyone following the KDL Bantam team. Macklin hosted the team for game one of the third round of provincial play. Their combined team was no match for KDL, who double the shots and scored four to Macklin's one. The second game in the total-point series will be played in Kerrobert at 1:30 pm on Sunday, March 3.
KDL must have been tuckered out from Saturday's win when they went to Kindersley for the first league playoff game. The seasoned officials had no trouble keeping up with this slow-skating crew, who eeked out a 3 to 2 win. Kindersley is back at Kerrobert on Wed, Feb. 27 at 7:15. Come out and cheer the boys on to the next round!!

Feb. 17: The KDL Bantams easily wrapped up round one of SHA playoffs with a 6 to 1 win in Naicam. Luckily the scary bus ride over icy roads didn't throw them off their game. Jaden "the Zed" Zunti netted a hat trick, TJ Greschner scored twice, and Wyatt Knorr added an unassisted marker. The helper points went to Roblin, McDonald, Walford,Cholin, Reiber, and McIntosh. Next round - Macklin. Stay tuned for game dates and times.

KDL finished second in the league, and will take on Kindersley in the first round of playoffs. Games are Sunday, Feb. 24 in Kindersley at 7:30 and Wednesday, Feb. 27 in Kerrobert at 7:15.

Feb. 3: An afternoon drive to North Battleford resulted in a nice 7 to 1 win over the Barons 3 team. This was KDL's final league game - gearing up now for league and more SHA playoff action. Feb. 8 to 10 is the Bantam Zone camp, so there will be no Bantam hockey games played at all in the province. Our next scheduled game is in Naicam on Feb. 17.

Jan. 26: A nice start to Provincial playoffs today in Dodsland as the KDL Tigers put on a Bantam workshop for the Naicam Vikings. Captain Derek Schraefel racked up five points, defenseman Ben Cholin assisted two goals and went up high for a sweet breakaway goal in the last minute of the game, TJ Greshner scored once and assisted twice, and Zach Ross netted two markers as well. Wyatt Knorr, Jon McDonald, Tyler McIntosh, Colt Beswitherick and Matthew Roblin also contributed to the 7 to 0 victory. Goalie Sam Walz earned the shutout. The team missed the fine offensive play of Mathew Duhaime who is out with a broken wrist. KDL returns to Naicam for the second game of this two-game total-point series on Feb. 17.

Jan. 22: The Bantams continued their winning streak with a 3 to 2 win Tuesday night in Rosetown. Goals early in the first period by Matthew Roblin and Robbie Kohlman would carry the team through two Rosetown markers and some questionable reffing until Kohlman, with help from Roblin and Jon McDonald, found the net again late in the third.

Jan.20: A four-point weekend for the Bantams! The Dodsland rink was busy with the start of Minor Hockey weekend when the Biggar/Wilkie team came calling Friday night. KDL got a jump up with two goals early in the game. The visitors couldn't muster enough firepower to fight back, marking just two goals in the third, and went down 5 - 2. A cold drive to Biggar on Sunday netted the same score for KDL. Now the team will focus on their first Provincial game, Saturday, Jan. 26 at 3 pm in Dodsland.

Jan. 13: It was a whirlwind weekend of hockey for the KDL Bantams. Friday was a road trip to Macklin, where KDL embarrassed the home team 6 to 1. Saturday they hosted the big, fast Barons 1 team, recovering twice from a three-goal deficit, only to lose 8 to 7 in the last few minutes of this exciting game. KDL had first-place Dinsmore back on their heels for the first two periods of Sunday's road game, but the Dynamo's mighty #17 was not to be denied four more goals to add to his to-date total of 47 goals and the Tigers went down 4 to 3. Lots of exciting hockey!

Jan.5: Bantams had a battle in Luseland with Macklin. Sporting the Mallard jerseys the Bantams traded leads all night but in the end TJ Greshner would pot the winner late in the third taking this one 6-5.

Jan.2. The Bantams hosted Rosetown on Wednesday night. In a fairly even match up, KDL went ahead at 13:10 of the first when Derek Schraefel, Robbie Kohlman and Zach Ross tagged up to make it 1-0. That score would hold until early in the third when Mathew Duhaime, Wyatt Knorr and Ben Cholin would bury the clincher to post a 2-0 win. Sam Walz stood tall to mark the shut out in net!

The hard-working Bantams tried their best but just couldn't prevail against the Barons 1 team at the Don Ross arena on Saturday. The Barons' goalie stopped all but three of the many shots on net, and the Barons big, fast offence were able to blast five markers into the Tiger net. It was the Bantams' first loss of the season, but they will rally again on Friday in the Kerrobert barn when the Eston/Eatonia/Leader team comes calling at 5:30. See you there!

Bantams hosted Unity in Dodsland on Friday night. KDL finished the
first a goal up at 1-0, added 3 more in the second.
Unity finally hit the scoreboard in the third and the game
would end 6-2 for the home squad. Sam Walz stood
tall in the net to keep Unity at bay.

The KDL Bantams had a four-point weekend, winning their first two league games quite handily. Kindersley visited the Kerrobert arena on Friday night,Nov. 16 as part of Kerrobert Minor Hockey Day, but only managed three goals against KDL's seven. Sam Walz was the winning goalie, and the points were shared by McDonald, Duhaime, Roblin, Knorr, Greschner, Walford, Zunti, Kohlman, and Reiber. Sunday, Nov. 18 saw KDL meeting the Battleford Barons 3 team in Luseland, and schooling them in a 6 to 1 hard-hitting win. Walz was in net again, and Cholin, Ross, Duhaime, Roblin, Knorr, Greschner, Kohlman, Reiber, and Schraefel all picked up points.

The KDL Bantam one day Tournament (Nov. 4)
was a huge success. KDL squeaked by
Kindersley to progress to the A Side and Macklin took out Unity to bring them on a collision with KDL for the A Final game.

Kindersley beat Untiy for the B Final round
and KDL made no mistake and demolished
Macklin to take the Tournament.

An exciting Skills competition proved to
be a fan and player favorite on the day.

organizing this tournament and to all
